Bolide
Bolide is Starry Audio's first limited-edition ultra-flagship IEM, with a limited release of 80 units in the Asian region.
The meaning of Bolide is "fire meteor." From the early stages of development, it was decided that this would be a limited-edition product. We hope this product, just like its name, brings the brilliance and shock of a meteor streaking across the night sky—transient yet everlasting.
During the R&D phase, Bolide was set on a completely new direction. In addition to our ongoing emphasis on vocal performance, this time we pursued brighter high-frequency expression and more powerful low-frequency dynamics. Therefore, we revisited the sound of Syzygy and Yozora, selected their key features, and reinterpreted other possibilities in Bolide.
Bolide features 4 electrostatic drivers, 4 balanced armature drivers, and a 9.2mm dual dynamic driver—the most luxurious driver configuration among Starry Audio's released products.
．For Bolide, to achieve more delicate high-frequency and ultra-high-frequency performance, we chose to use 4 electrostatic drivers for the highs. Electrostatic drivers help reduce distortion in high and ultra-high frequencies.
．For mid-high frequencies, it uses 4 balanced armature drivers. Similar to Syzygy, two balanced armature drivers are allocated to mids and mid-highs, focusing on vocals and instruments, but the presentation differs from Syzygy.
．For lows, like the previous Yozora, it uses a 9.2mm patented dual dynamic driver provided by AROMA Audio, featuring AROMA Audio's patented "coaxial strong magnetic phase-aligned dual dynamic driver technology." However, this time we've made minor adjustments to this driver to enhance the overall low-frequency atmosphere and make it stronger and more intense.
．Like Syzygy, Bolide uses a large electronic crossover board to handle frequency bands for different drivers on a single board. In particular, separating the electrostatic drivers for frequency handling allows for more delicate high-frequency performance.
Both the faceplate and shell colors incorporate designs related to fire meteors. The shell uses 3D printing and includes polarizing powder, so the color brightness changes with the viewing angle.
Bolide employs a 4-way crossover design and features a new design in the sound tube. For the low-frequency output position, a larger space is left open, which helps create powerful lows while reducing excess air pressure.
In terms of tuning, Bolide follows the general direction of Japanese-style sound but also references some Chinese songs, K-pop, and symphonic music. As a limited-edition product, we hope more people can enjoy it, so we've combined and improved the strengths of Syzygy and Yozora into a brand-new sound: more delicate and rich highs, more ear-catching vocal performance, and more atmospheric, powerful lows—like the brightness, beauty, and shock of a fire meteor.
The stock cable for Bolide is the Olive from Rolling Force. Olive is a variant of Choco, using a 4-strand braided Litz 4N + 5N oxygen-free copper (Litz 4N + Litz 5N OFC). The Litz wire structure effectively reduces skin effect and proximity effect, ensuring detail and clarity. Olive was specially retuned for the new product Bolide, with fresh olive green accents added to the accessories, evolving from Choco's base to match Bolide's sound.
